Live Your Life in Fullness of Purity and Power

Blue Fire Legacy’s purpose statement is “Igniting the Body of Christ to live in fullness of purity and power.”  It took me a few months to process through what that means and how we walk it out. Today’s blog is a summary of my studies.

To be full is defined by dictionary.com as “filled to utmost capacity”.  As the Body of Christ, we are to live in His fullness. In other words, we are to be filled to the utmost capacity with Christ, His character and His abilities.  Which ultimately leaves room for nothing else.

Fullness of purity

When we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit enters into our being.  We are a tripartite being with a spirit, soul and body. The Holy Spirit dwells in our spirit.  We are called to bring our soul and body into alignment with the new purity of our spirit. Our soul consists of our emotions, thoughts and will.  Even though we are saved from the old life, we often continue to struggle with the thought patterns and emotions of our old man.

Put off the old self

We are instructed to put off our old self (Romans 6:6; Ephesians 4:22; Colossians 3:9).  In fact, we are new creations and no longer subject to the ways of the old man. In Romans chapter 6, Paul tells us that we died to sin (v 2) and that we are to live in Christ (v 11).  Think about what it would be like to have a corpse strapped to our back that we had to carry around with us everywhere we go.  The heaviness would slow us down and make everything we do more difficult.  Then you have the ugliness of a dead, decomposing body and to top it off, the stench.

None of us would choose to daily carry a corpse in the physical, but we often choose to carry our old, dead, rotting, stinking ways of thinking and acting into our walk with Christ.  Why? Is it because we are afraid of letting go of the old or that we are just not aware of our ability to think and act in a new way.

We are to live with the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16).  This requires that we change our ways of thinking. New thought patterns should lead to differences in our actions.

The goal is Christlikeness

To live in fullness of purity is not to have a checklist of do’s and don’ts that we follow religiously.  While holy living will be an outflow of our life, our goal is to be like Christ. To accomplish our goal, we must make choices to think and act according to the example that Christ gave us.

When we look at Christ’s ministry, we see that He thought differently than most humans.  He saw people differently and responded to situations differently. For example, when the woman caught in adultery was brought before Him, it was expected that he would join (if not lead) the crowd and condemn her.  Instead, He challenged them to look at their own lives and then gave the woman hope. Instead of condemnation, Christ brought God’s love to the situation (John 8:3-11).

Communing with the Father

Christ’s central purpose was to do the will of the Father.  For us to live like Christ, we must align our purpose with His.  We must make doing the Father’s will our priority.  How do we know the will of the Father?  We must be in communion with Him. The Father wants to have a relationship with each and every one of us.  Three key components of relationship with the Father are studying His word (the Bible), prayer (conversation with Him), and worship (acknowledging and adoring who He is and what He has done).

As we read the Bible, we see that God asked different people to do different things.  In our world, it is easy for us to think that what God is telling us to do is also what he is telling every other Christian to do.  To some degree there are common instructions, but there can also be great differences. While we are all to share our faith with others, our missions fields won’t look the same; they can be close or distant, both physically and culturally  It is important that you hear from God where He would have you, and then obey. Don’t get stuck comparing your instructions with others.

Fullness of Power

To live in Fullness of Power, as with Fullness of Purity, our objective is Christlikeness.  When we cover and fill our life with the power of the Blood of Christ, we will get to see that power flow in amazing ways.  It is important that we place ourselves in right relationship with God. He is the one with the authority, power, wisdom, knowledge and utmost love.  We are one of His means of sharing that love to the world.

Luke 5:17 says, “the power of the Lord was present for Him to perform healing” (NASB).  When Jesus healed, it was through the power of the Lord. It is that power that the Body of Christ should be walking in today.

Receiving the power

So how do we receive the power of the Lord?  Look back a verse in Luke 5:16 and you will see “Jesus Himself would often slip away to the wilderness and pray.”  We need to get away from the tasks of today and spend time with the Father. Jesus didn’t just pray a couple minutes a few times a day.  He met with God; He spent intentional time, and a lot of it, in conversation with the Father. Would you have only a 5 minute meeting daily with the most significant person in your life, and say you have a deep relationship with them?

We read in Scripture that God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow (Hebrews 13:8).  The Holy Spirit is working in Genesis through Revelation. We see so many examples of the supernatural in Scripture.  We see commands to all believers to walk out the supernatural here on earth. Jesus even taught us to pray “your will be done, your kingdom come, on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10).  Jesus tells us to heal the sick, cast out demons and make disciples (Matthew 10:8, 28:19). The only way we are able to do what He tells us to do is if we walk in the fullness of the power of the Lord.  (None of it comes from us. It flows through us when we choose to live as vessels.)

Putting it together

To walk in fullness of purity and power, our goal is to be like Christ.  We need to put off the old ways of thinking and acting. We also need to walk in relationship with the Father daily.  It is through our pursuit of purity that we will be able to walk in the power of the Lord.
